I finally created my own design using Autodesk Fusion 360. It’s a Heart-shaped trinket box I’m giving to my mum.
This is my first design as I begin to learn how to use Autodesk Fusion 360. It’s a great 3D design app you can get for free for hobby home use or education use. It took several YouTube videos before I understood it enough to create my first 3D objects. I had a few goes at doing it different ways until I got one that worked. The videos I found easiest to learn from were Learn Fusion 360 or Die Trying!
I created a time-lapse video of printing the lid and the box:
The lid took about 2 hours to print and the box about 7 hours. I exported the STL files from Fusion 360 and imported them into Cura, then exported the gcode files and uploaded them to my Octoprint Raspberry Pi and let it manage the printing.
I’ve uploaded the STL files and some photos to my Thingiverse page if you’d like to give it a try yourself.
I sanded the box lid and applied primer a few times then several applications of red paint. Once I’m finished I’ll upload completed photos.
I’ve only just applied one layer of primer at this stage but will add a couple more before painting.
It’s awesome to see something you thought of become a 3D object (or two!) and printed and painted. I’m really enjoying this.
